A Milanese Apartment

Private commission, 2024, Milan

A Milanese Apartment is a renovation project for an interior space. The design stems from the characteristics of the site itself, a building located in the Calvairate district of Milan. Part of the city’s expansion between the first and second half of the 20th century, the building showcases a range of formal and material solutions characteristic of many Milanese buildings constructed during that period, with rich detailing and fine finishes.

The project aims, on one hand, to preserve traces of the interior as it was before the intervention. For example, by retaining the original floors and highlighting the marks on the ground where the old walls once stood with stainless steel inserts. Other preserved elements include the frames of the previous doors, which have been transformed into a portal dividing the living room and kitchen.

Another key aspect of the project is the attention to detail and the use of materials that align with the characteristics of the original building. Rich wood veneers, marbles, and tiles were used in the design of a series of large furnishings and shelves that span the bedroom, hallway, and living area.

In collaboration with the client, a process of editing and coordination was carried out, starting from a collection of vintage furniture owned by the client.
