Galeria e Bregdetit, from 2nd August to 16th October, 2025, Vlorë, Albania
Galeria e Bregdetit is pleased to present “Seaside Quartet”, marking the return of Parasite 2.0 to Albania. Following their 2019 project, when the Milan-based architecture and design studio was invited to reimagine the gallery’s interior, Seaside Quartet features an installation where objects and sound work together to create a living space.
The exhibition emerges from an ongoing dialogue between Parasite 2.0 and curator Elian Stefa, grounded in a shared passion for music and for collective spaces activated through sound. From free jazz to rave tribes and DIY sound systems, music (and the tools that enable its propagation) is seen as an integral part of architecture, capable of generating spaces and situations.
Custom-made sound systems once rooted in self-organized parties and marginal communities are often stripped of their original subversive charge In a contemporary culture. The objects in this exhibition stand in opposition to this, and a return to roots, aiming instead for a de-aestheticization of these devices, now reduced to mere icons by the mainstream.
Four reconstructed sound systems, three turntables, and a carefully curated vinyl selection compose the installation, which, like a jazz quartet, plays in unison, in harmony, or in contrast – producing unpredictable sonic textures.
The four sound systems of Seaside Quartet amplify sound by producing and manipulating it spontaneously, using audio waves as instruments in their own right, giving rise to sound through vibration and interaction with both artificial and natural materials.
This exhibition was made possible through the support of Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Tirana, and MEKI the Ministry of Economy, Culture, and Innovation of Albania. Realized with the skilled craftsmanship of Apparat Studio.
